About this Theme

One million, six hundred and three thousand, two hundred and nineteen.

At the time we wrote this article, that is the exact number of downloads that the Twenty Thirteen WordPress Theme had received.

Some would only dream of having a theme that was downloaded that many times, and the fact that the 2013 theme managed to score a number that is over a million and a half is astounding.

There is a lot of this theme that makes it a great framework to construct your online home. And we’re gonna tell you a bit more about it.

The Twenty Thirteen WordPress Theme

If you compared the Twenty Thirteen theme with its predecessor, Twenty Twelve, it’s clear that the designers of the theme took a fresh approach in their design.

2013 has a fun, earthy vibe to it that comes striking through.

However, the initial look of the test site can easily be deceiving. Although Twenty Thirteen’s demo show a header and colors that lean towards a rusty earth tone, there are option to change the look and feel of your site. And there are other features that make it a great blogging theme.

Change Header and Header Text Color

You wouldn’t be able to tell from the preview alone, but Twenty Thirteen has options in the WP Customizer that lets you upload any picture for use in your header.

Have a few that you really love?

Upload them all and randomize them so that you viewers are always getting some fresh to look at.

The other nice feature is that no matter what your Header Image is, you can change the Header Text color to any hue you choose so that it stands out against the backdrop.

Getting Back to Blogging

There are a lot of themes with a ton of bells and whistles, but most people don’t want the extra. Why?

Because, sometimes, simple is much, much better.

As a blogging centric theme, Twenty Thirteen puts content at it’s core. And by content, we don’t mean just words — we mean all types of content.

Standard blog posts aside,  Twenty Thirteen has a whopping 9 post formats:

  • Aside
  • Audio
  • Chat
  • Gallery
  • Image
  • Link
  • Quote
  • Status
  • Video

The look and feel of these options and what you can create is very Tumblr-like when live.

These are just a couple things that the 2013 Theme can lay claim to, but there are area that the theme falls short.

For example, outside of just the header text and and head image, there are virtually no other theme customization options.

This can be upsetting it you are trying to create a color scheme of their own. When things don’t go the way they planned, many may choose to leave this great theme behind due to the lack of options.

But now there is an easy way to customize this theme and truly make it your own. And when we say easy, we mean EASY.
